Their story began in 2020 with a Bumble match, but the spark had actually been lit years earlier when they briefly met at a friend’s party. After that first date post-lockdown, everything fell into place.

Ben’s proposal was as thoughtful as the relationship itself. With the help of Jemma’s best friend, he orchestrated a morning at Alba Hot Springs, complete with mimosas, massages, and lunch at her favourite winery. When she arrived home, their lounge room was filled with candles and flowers, and her favourite song, Chateau by Angus & Julia Stone, played softly as he stood waiting beside a sign that read “Will You Marry Me.” It was intimate, emotional, perfectly imperfect — exactly them.

When they found the Prince Deck in St Kilda, they instantly knew it was the place. The warm timber deck, the sweeping views of city and sea, the clean architectural lines — it felt like a contemporary canvas that needed only a touch of romance layered in. And on their January wedding day, the sun arrived right on cue, bathing the space in golden light as Jemma walked down the aisle to a breathtaking rendition of Matt Corby’s Resolution, performed by Paper Hearts.

Photographer Nikki McCrone captured everything with her signature artistry. She brought a speaker to play the couple’s favourite songs during portraits, creating an atmosphere that was relaxed, expressive, and deeply personal. Her images feel like the memory of the day — warm, candid, full of connection.

Jemma’s style was modern minimalism at its most refined. She wore a sculptural Maticevski gown from Bluebell Bridal — architectural, elegant, and timeless. As jewellery designers, we adored how her bridal details sat quietly within the look — considered, balanced, and beautifully understated.

The ceremony, led by Clare Shone, was filled with laughter, tears, and the kind of familiarity that feels like home. Clare had cared for Jemma during one of the most meaningful moments of her own life years earlier, and that connection spilled naturally into the ceremony, giving it softness and authenticity.

There were countless unforgettable moments — the first look in the green-filled atrium, where nerves melted into tears and laughter; the reception entrance to the sound of tambourines, louder and more joyful than either of them expected; the first dance to Your Song, sung live by a close friend while guests swayed and sang around them. It was intimate and unpolished in the best possible way — real, lived-in, deeply felt.

To Jemma and Ben, marriage feels like a never-ending sleepover with your best friend — the familiar comfort of returning home to one another, the quiet grin shared across a room, the joy woven into ordinary days. And their wedding reflected exactly that: modern, romantic, joyfully effortless, and rich with meaning in every detail.
